Summary: For everyone it is sure today that Christopher Columbus was not the first European who came to the Americas. There are enough proofs for the visit of the Vikings around the year 1000. But which influence the Vikings had in the development of the Amerindian cultures? Has there been any culture who was influenced especially by these European warriors? If we check out the possible influences in the social structure, in the housebuilding, in the shipbuilding, in the arms which were used, we cannot find any influence of the Vikings culture to the Amerindian cultures. In comparison with the influence the Vikings had in Europe their contribution to the history of the northamerican cultures seems to be nothing at all. |
